Early Life of Zebunnisa Bangash
Zebunnisa Bangash, better known by his stage name Zeb, was born in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, and is a promising young musician. She and her cousin sister Haniya Aslam (or Haniya; the two are commonly referred to as Zeb and Haniya) formed a pop band in college in 2007, writing their songs and experimenting with different sounds. At a university in the United States, Zeb majored in economics and history of art, while Haniya studied computer science and anthropology.
Zeb has been singing since age eight and has trained as a vocalist since 1998 with the famous Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan. Her ancestry is Pashtun.

Sessions at an abandoned cafe in the basement of Zeb’s hostel were where she and her first cousin Haniya wrote their first song together. “Chup” is the name for it. A nine-song CD titled “Chup” followed in 2008.
Her early success came as half of the duet Zeb and Haniya with guitarist Haniya Aslam. Her solo career has taken her all over the world. Now, she’s combining with Michael Winograd, a famous Klezmer Clarinettist and composer, and several other top musicians from Brooklyn to form the group Sandaraa. The group recently got grants from the well-known Chamber Music America and the MAP Fund to write and record music based on the works of famous Urdu poets from the subcontinent. Their 2018 debut single, “Farz Karo”, quickly became a fan favourite, and they plan to follow it up with even more infectious tunes shortly.
Bollywood Debut of Zebunnisa Bangash
Zeb and Haniya’s fame spread to India, where superstar music producer A R Rahman personally selected them. After performing the stunningly beautiful song “Sooha Saha” from the Bollywood film Highway (2014) for Rahman, he invited Zebunnisa to sing a solo song in the movie “Madra Cafe” (2013).
Coke Studio Debut of Zebunnisa Bangash
Zeb and Haniya have been performing together since 2008, when they first appeared on Coke Studio (Pakistan) in seasons 2 and 3. Both have given stunning performances of original songs that blend their talents with those of former Coke Studio producer Rohail Hayat.
Presently, Zeb can be seen on season 9 of Coke Studio Pakistan, where he has so far sung Aaja Re Moray Saiyaan, a song produced by Noori.
