Shafqat Amanat Ali was born February 26th, 1965, into a Muslim household in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, to Ustad Amanat Ali Khan and his wife Almas Amanat Ali Khan, making him the ninth generation of Patiala Gharana. The deceased Asad Amanat Ali Khan’s youngest sibling. His bachelor’s degree is from Government College University, Lahore (now known as GC University). He was honoured by the Music Society of Government College University, Lahore, chaired by Tariq Farani.
The singer, writer, composer is the son of the legendary Pakistani singer Ustad Amanat Ali Khan, making him a part of the 9th generation old Patiala Gharana.
Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan is a Patiala Gharana-trained classical vocalist from Pakistan. He fronted the Pakistani rock band Fuzon as the main vocalist.
Career of Shafqat Amanat Ali
A number of his most famous pieces include “Aankhon Ke Saagar,” “Khamaj,” “Ankhiyan,” and “Mitwa.” Additionally, he performed the songs “Phir Wohi Raastey” and “Allah Megh De” for the Pakistani film Ramchand Pakistani.
Shankar Mahadevan discovered Shafqat. He heard Shafqat’s hit “Aankhon Ke Saagar” on the way to his studio. He called a radio DJ acquaintance for Shafqat’s number. Shankar Ehsaan Loy composed “Mitwa” for Shafqat’s film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Shafqat’s popularity grew after the song topped the charts in India. In Dor, he sang “Yeh Honsla.” He sang in Hello and Mumbai Cutting. Nagesh Kukunoor’s Hyderabad Blues 2 contained his songs “Mora Saiyaan” and “Tere Bina.”
In 2006, after leaving the band Fuzon, Shafqat focused on his solo career. The folk and Sufi-inspired CD Tabeer was commissioned by Music Today and released in mid-September 2008.
Pakistan’s Fire Records released the album during Eid in September 2008. Shani Haider (Zeeshan Haider) recorded, mixed, and mastered the album in Pakistan. Shafqat composed all songs save “Naina” and “Tu hi tu hai.” Naina by Shani Haider.
The first music video for the album’s lead single, “Khairheyan De Naal,” was broadcast on all stations in India and Pakistan. He has been affectionately dubbed the “Rock star Ustad” by Saleem Merchant of the combo Saleem-Suleman. He also appeared on the fourth season of Indian Idol, episode Rubaroo.
His rendition of “Dildaara” from the film Ra.One earned him a nomination for the 2012 Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer. Recently, he performed “Raske Bhare Tore Naina” for the 2013 film Satyagraha, which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, and Manoj Bajpai. He was also included in Season 2 of MTV Unplugged.
Shafqat Amanat Ali’s Debut in Coke Studio Season 2
Shafqat Amanat Ali was featured in Season 2 of Coke Studio Pakistan in 2009. Ali is well-known for his many live appearances in Coke Studio Pakistan. He has teamed with Rohail Hyatt and Strings (among others), performed original Coke Studio music, and modified versions of his songs. In both India and Pakistan, his three solo albums, Tabeer (2008), Kyun Dooriyan (2010), and Muh Dikhai (2015), were warmly welcomed. Ali is renowned for his Sufi singing style, and several songs contain references to Sufi philosophy and mysticism.
