Performance highlights and selected moments
Roxen is one of the most recognizable Pakistani rock bands to emerge from Lahore's vibrant music scene. Led by singer, songwriter and composer Mustafa Zahid, Roxen became particularly popular for its emotional Urdu lyrics, alternative-rock arrangements and powerful live performances. The band's music found a strong audience in Pakistan and later crossed borders into India, where songs such as “Toh Phir Aao” and “Tera Mera Rishta” became widely known after featuring in the Bollywood film Awarapan.
Formed in the early 2000s, Roxen helped give Pakistani pop-rock a distinctive emotional identity. Even years after its breakthrough, the band's songs continue to attract listeners through streaming platforms, digital music services and live performances. Mustafa Zahid also remains active as a solo singer and composer, making Roxen's musical legacy relevant to both older fans and a newer generation of listeners.
Who Is Roxen Band?
Roxen is a Pakistani alternative-rock and pop-rock band associated primarily with Lahore. Mustafa Zahid is the band's best-known member and lead vocalist, with Haider Halim and Shahan Khan also associated with the band's later lineup. Roxen's early musical identity was built around guitar-driven arrangements combined with deeply emotional lyrics and Zahid's distinctive vocal delivery.
The band began developing its music in the early 2000s and released “Yaadein” as one of its early breakthrough songs. Its debut album, Rozen-e-Deewar, arrived in 2006 and helped establish Roxen as an important name in Pakistan's rock music movement. Contemporary coverage of the band's launch described Roxen as already having performed more than 100 gigs and highlighted the strong response to its live shows.
Roxen's Debut Album: Rozen-e-Deewar
The release of Rozen-e-Deewar in 2006 was a major milestone in Roxen's career. The album combined rock instrumentation with softer, emotionally driven songs, giving the band an identity that appealed to both rock fans and listeners of romantic music.
The album received positive critical attention and developed a cult following. Importantly, Rozen-e-Deewar was also nominated for Best Album at the 7th Lux Style Awards, making it one of the clearest documented award recognitions associated with Roxen.
Roxen's Biggest Songs
Roxen's catalogue includes several songs that have remained popular long after their original release. Some of the band's most recognized tracks include:
Among these, “Toh Phir Aao” and “Tera Mera Rishta” became especially significant because of their connection with Bollywood.
Bollywood Breakthrough and International Recognition
One of the defining moments in Roxen's history came in 2007, when “Toh Phir Aao” and “Tera Mera Rishta” were featured in the Bollywood movie Awarapan. The songs introduced Mustafa Zahid's emotional vocal style to a much larger Indian audience and helped establish him as a recognizable Pakistani voice in Bollywood music. Apple Music describes the Awarapan connection as the moment that catapulted Zahid to fame in both Pakistan and India.
This crossover became an important achievement for Roxen because it demonstrated that Pakistani pop-rock could travel successfully beyond its home market. The emotional quality of the songs also became a defining feature of Mustafa Zahid's later career.
Mustafa Zahid's Career Beyond Roxen
Although Roxen remains central to Mustafa Zahid's identity, his career expanded considerably through playback singing and music composition.
He became associated with several well-known Bollywood songs, including “Bhula Dena” from Aashiqui 2, “Zaroorat” from Ek Villain, “Maine Khud Ko” from Ragini MMS 2 and “Yeh Junoon Mera” from Shootout at Wadala. His music has consequently reached audiences far beyond the original Pakistani rock scene.
His ability to move between rock music, romantic ballads and film soundtracks has helped him maintain a distinctive place in South Asian music.
Latest Music and Current Activity
Roxen's musical story has not simply remained in the 2000s. Mustafa Zahid continues to release music and perform for audiences.
Apple Music currently lists “Phir Se Baarish” among his 2025 releases, while Spotify lists “Saiyara Live in Concert” as a 2026 release. His recent catalogue also includes collaborations and appearances such as “Dust Of War (Zalmi X Legacy Track 2)”.
His official website currently presents him as the lead vocalist of Roxen and reports more than 100 songs, 50 million-plus streams and over 20 years in music. The site also highlights his continuing work as a live performer for concerts, weddings and private events.
This continued activity is important because it shows that Mustafa Zahid and the Roxen musical identity remain active rather than being limited to their early-career success.
